It's possible that your T61 has the lower-end Intel graphics that only support by I ran inxi on my T61 and got the following info: Lenovo ThinkPad T61 The nVidia chips are generally "higher-end" graphics and have higher resolution. Everything else is a ridiculous exercise.

Graphocs more complete look at the T61 will be posted shortly, but so far everything is looking really good. That worked for me.

Now, that I uninstall the drivers, I'm able to have the screen displaying it without the symptoms mentioned at the beginning for quite some time. I don't know what else to do.

The driver being installed is not validated for this computer. There are a few different options for wireless connections with the T61, but the addition of Draft-N is a great step forward. But there are several models with integrated cards which doesn't support DVI due to lack of a small special chip. Yes, it's the low resolution card.
